J Goes Pink for Pink October

Pink October is here, and to do our part for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the J. Gonzalez Law Firm is going pink! J Goes Pink is our campaign to raise awareness of the disease, and an opportunity to spotlight breast cancer by offering mammogram giveaways to promote the importance of screening and early detection.

Why Is A Mammogram Important?

Simply put, mammograms save lives. A mammogram offers the best way to screen for breast cancer and is an important tool to find breast cancer at an early stage. Finding breast cancer at an early stage leads to early treatment and a range of treatment options that signal better chances of survival.

Screening mammography is the only method proven to reduce deaths due to breast cancer by detecting breast cancer early. Since mammograms were introduced in the U.S. in the 1980's, there have been 30 percent fewer deaths from breast cancer among women.

Let’s Do Our Part to Save Those We Love

Behind every statistic is a story of a life. We all may know someone affected by breast cancer, and Pink October is a chance to celebrate the strength of the mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends and support all those who have been affected by breast cancer.

According to breastcancer.org:

  • About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
  • In 2020, an estimated 276,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 48,530 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
  • For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer.
  • About 42,170 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2020 from breast cancer.

These statistics paint the serious risk that breast cancer poses to those that we love, but with advances in treatment and early detection brought about through thorough screening methods like mammography, the overall death rate from breast cancer has decreased by 1.9% per year for the last 10 years.

Despite the good news, the rate of breast cancer diagnoses has remained stable, so that means it is up to all of us to continue this decrease by bringing awareness to the disease and getting screened early and often as recommended by your doctor.
